| In the Puuk region of Yucatan, there are no lakes, rivers, or natural wells. The Maya of this region were very dependent on rain and artificial water reservoirs. Because of this, the god of rain, Chaak, received special attention. This building, which is called the Palace of Masks, has 250 faces of Chaak. It's also known by the Mayan name Kodz Poop, which means 'rolled mat'. Notice the roof comb. |
